This is another monochromatic painting where I use an accent color, in this case an earthy red for the hair. The pose is based on a photo from Croquis Cafe, an online reference site for figurative nudes. I drew it out on paper first, rendering everything to a high degree of finish, and then adding a layer of amber shellack, which you can still see along the edges. I like the aesthetic of creating a border and allowing the substrate and underlying materials show through. The painting is mounted onto a cradled wooden panel for an elegant final product.

Truthfully, I find it hard to pin point exactly what I'm trying to say with my art, if anything at all. I'm drawn to people more than anything else, but what I'm drawn to varies from painting to painting. Sometimes it's the way light is hitting a particular scene. Other times it's the way a person looks. And the way each painting is created is different each time. Some works are laborious, meticulously crafted in the manner of the Old Masters like Velazquez, Vermeer, and Rembrandt. Some are painted vigorously with thick and luscious impasto marks made with palette knife and brushes, drawing inspiration from such modern artists such as Franz Kline and Rothko. What unifies everything is equal parts love of the human figure and a love for the seemingly infinite possibilities of the oil painting medium. I wish I had a "style," and I'm certain years from now after 1000s of paintings created I'll land on something. Until that time, I hope you enjoy taking this journey with me as I create for the love of creating, without sacrificing craftsmanship or technique, or losing myself to trends. Thank you for your support and patronage, and I hope my artwork speaks to you in the way it has spoken to me.
