"The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea." -- Isak Dinesen When I need some creative inspiration, I head to the beach and plop my feet in the sand, watching wave after wave roll onto the sand. Something in the mist from the sea fills my Soul with with ideas, and I reluctantly leave, returning home. Most of my seascapes are inspired by the Pacific Coast and the sandy and often rocky beaches. Favorite places of mine are: Bodega Bay; Monterey/Carmel; San Francisco and Pacifica; Sea Ranch and the Mendocino/Fort Bragg area. These small works are done on paper in a limited palette, and finished with 2 coats of UV protective varnish. They are shipped in white mats that fit in a standard US-sized frame measuring 11" x 14" and are made with high quality art materials including thick creamy gesso; high-grade acrylic paintings; Indian Ink and occasionally graphite.
My art has been described as “abstract narrative” and is visual poetry, influenced by nature and life experiences. I mainly use acrylic paints, gesso, graphite and gel mediums to add textures with organic forms onto the canvas or wood surface. Each layer is a like a new chapter in life, building thoughts and memories into a unique and personal story. I began making art at a very early age and always assumed I'd be an artist when I grew up. I majored in art and business but landed in the real estate field instead. There I worked with architects, designers and contractors and was able to create lobby art for many of my projects. Today I am a full-time artist who occasionally consults with my real estate clients which helps pay the bills, and I love to create abstracts, seascapes, simple still life paintings, and occasionally cityscapes and house paintings as a tribute to my long stint in the real estate industry.
