Listening to flamenco and having watercolor in hand leads to work with rhythm. The splashes are a result of the great inspiration I felt as I finished this piece.
Watercolor on Mixed Media paper (98lbs paper density)
As a kid, I always preferred a pencil and paper over toys or television. My talent was first recognized by my third grade art teacher. For years to follow, I received formal education in art. Unfortunately, not having been accepted to a High School for art, I abandoned art altogether. I would not touch so much as a marker for the next 2 years. Instead, pursued photography. Naturally, I could not hide my talent, and returned to art. I took advanced portfolio classes my last 2 years of high school but it was not the same. My elementary art teacher happened to visit our studio one day. To my current art teacher's surprise, my former teacher was more shocked than amused. Her exact words were "Jorge was this good in elementary". I knew then that my talent was not something to take for granted, and needed to be continually improved. After high school I studied Graphic Design first, and soon found new enthusiasm in architecture. I had found a field that I felt took me to new boundaries in art. It was in architecture that I felt I could grow in skill and passion once again. The technicality has been a fun challenge, but the depth of culture and history in architecture is beyond anything I have ever experienced. Today I work in the field of architecture, and I do what I love. I hope one of my art pieces connects with you!
