What better way to depict the moon than as a mysterious luchadora, with deep dark lipstick.
Intricate narrative illustration, often containing hidden double meanings, draw viewers in to closely examine Joe Fenton’s artwork. Born and raised in the California Gold Country, his work depicts the West Coast mystique. Inspired by the legends of good times and great opportunities against a backdrop of snow-capped Sierra’s, Sequoia Redwoods, vast deserts, urban landscapes, on out to the Pacific Ocean. He comes from a line of great California explorers and settlers and his artwork echoes the beauty and myth of their experiences and discoveries. Joe’s work depicts a tightly drawn, sometimes cartoon-like quality, which he renders into large scale paintings, using layers of richly colored spray-paint, airbrush and detailed line work, to create stunning, solid compositions. Each element is drafted with precision to lead the viewer on a journey into the piece, where they can explore the synthesis of imagery. He's inspired by nature and culture and the convergence and overlap of each. Joe resides in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where his ancestors settled over 150 years ago. Joe is passionate about the beauty of the planet, the joy it offers us, and our collective desire to celebrate and protect the Earth for future generations. He does work for public and corporate clients, as well as art sales and commissions for private collectors.
