Ready to Hang
Sometimes you just feel melancholy. Cold gray Chicago days that stretch on forever cause the blues. A day job that controls you, trapped in a box, and dancing a sad dance for dollars. This mixed media piece is a direct result of those feelings.
I have always been fascinated with how things work. I would take apart or deconstruct toys, radios, old appliances and reassemble them, never finishing the same way they started. And I am fascinated by fire. I got caught many times using the burners on the stove to melt plastic straws and drip them on things. (I still have a scar on the back of my hand from a melted straw.) Fast forward a few years, and I bought a real torch, and started melting some really cool things, like copper, silver and gold; although, every now and then, I still like to melt a straw and drip the hot smelly plastic on stuff. I started making art from the things I break & take apart. Breaking glass & assembling it into something beautiful, using watch parts or old countertops to fashion a piece of jewelry, anything can be used to create. What starts out as an idea or vision soon becomes finessed into a three dimensional work of art, leaving a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment to replace the ethereal.
