The inspiration for this work was a trip that I took to Ecuador at a young age. The pastel drawing reflects the stare of a native Ecuadorian that I first sketched in my book. Upon arriving to the U.S. I decided to render the portrait in a surrealistic/abstract style that was similar to the Latin America art at the time and that represented the uncertainty that I found familiar in that stare.
