Ready to Hang
I want my florals to convey the effortless beauty of nature but leave room for viewers to see other things: whether it be insects buzzing around, the sense of a breeze, dryness ... or simply serenity. I try to keep the paintings loose and create depth by combining wet-on-wet backgrounds with the use of the pallet knife for sharper, textured close-in images. Partially blended colors help make the paintings bright and increase the feeling of depth.
Windy Day is painted on a 11" x 14" canvas panel which had been mounted on a wood studio frame. I've applied one coat of Krylon UV Archival non-yellowing clear varnish to ensure protection against fading, dirt, moisture and other sources of discoloration. The frame is painted on all edges and has a center-positioned bracket for hanging. The painting will be carefully packed for shipping, labeled, and protected against damage in transit.
The majority of my adult life has been spent in the consulting business around Washington DC. I retired in 2014. During 2004 and 2005 I had the opportunity to live in Geneva Switzerland and to travel in Europe, Africa, Russia, and Southeast Asia. Earlier, in my 20s, I served as a Merchant Marine officer and saw a good deal of the world then too, but in a very different way. I have a B.E. in Marine Engineering with a minor in Naval Architecture. Painting entered my life in the early 1990s, on weekends, in my unfinished basement where I would experiment with brushes and brushstrokes, colors and values, perspective, technique, and much more. All I needed was a sandwich, some wine, and music…and a rainy day when my daughter’s soccer game was cancelled. As with all of us, my life experiences have influenced how I see the world: what is interesting, shape and form, motion, context, color and so on. My experiences find their way into my art. I can be contacted via my website: jimcarrollart.com. I hope you enjoy my work.
