Ready to Hang

No Tourists Today is about a lazy day in Venice when the people who actually live there get to sleep in and the canal is so calm that the sound of the water lapping against the boat can hardly be heard. It makes me remember Venice, a city I have enjoyed many times.

No Tourists Today is painted on a 36" x 48" stretched canvas on a gallery wood frame and is back stapled to the frame. I've applied one coat of Krylon UV Archival non-yellowing clear varnish to ensure protection against fading, dirt, moisture and other sources of discoloration. The canvas on all edges is painted and the wood frame is wired for hanging. The painting will be carefully packed for shipping, labeled, and protected against damage in transit.

The majority of my adult life has been spent in the consulting business around Washington DC. I retired in 2014. During 2004 and 2005 I had the opportunity to live in Geneva Switzerland and to travel in Europe, Africa, Russia, and Southeast Asia. Earlier, in my 20s, I served as a Merchant Marine officer and saw a good deal of the world then too, but in a very different way. I have a B.E. in Marine Engineering with a minor in Naval Architecture. Painting entered my life in the early 1990s, on weekends, in my unfinished basement where I would experiment with brushes and brushstrokes, colors and values, perspective, technique, and much more. All I needed was a sandwich, some wine, and music…and a rainy day when my daughter’s soccer game was cancelled. As with all of us, my life experiences have influenced how I see the world: what is interesting, shape and form, motion, context, color and so on. My experiences find their way into my art. I can be contacted via my website: jimcarrollart.com. I hope you enjoy my work.
