This painting was created in layers with the top being a blue and the under layers being a red oxide and white. As I worked the canvas I found the flowing lines and the various ways the lines met and diverged to be just a little hypnotizing in a very mellow way. So many on ramps and off ramps!

The majority of my adult life has been spent in the consulting business around Washington DC. I retired in 2014. During 2004 and 2005 I had the opportunity to live in Geneva Switzerland and to travel in Europe, Africa, Russia, and Southeast Asia. Earlier, in my 20s, I served as a Merchant Marine officer and saw a good deal of the world then too, but in a very different way. I have a B.E. in Marine Engineering with a minor in Naval Architecture. Painting entered my life in the early 1990s, on weekends, in my unfinished basement where I would experiment with brushes and brushstrokes, colors and values, perspective, technique, and much more. All I needed was a sandwich, some wine, and music…and a rainy day when my daughter’s soccer game was cancelled. As with all of us, my life experiences have influenced how I see the world: what is interesting, shape and form, motion, context, color and so on. My experiences find their way into my art. I can be contacted via my website: jimcarrollart.com. I hope you enjoy my work.
