Ready to Hang
My goal is that each of my paintings be vibrant yet have subtleties that tease the viewer with color, the use of geometry, and the inference of depth and image. I want my work to provide immediate pleasure in the viewing ... plus enjoyment in the interpretation.
The majority of my adult life has been spent in the consulting business around Washington DC. I retired in 2014. During 2004 and 2005 I had the opportunity to live in Geneva Switzerland and to travel in Europe, Africa, Russia, and Southeast Asia. Earlier, in my 20s, I served as a Merchant Marine officer and saw a good deal of the world then too, but in a very different way. I have a B.E. in Marine Engineering with a minor in Naval Architecture. Painting entered my life in the early 1990s, on weekends, in my unfinished basement where I would experiment with brushes and brushstrokes, colors and values, perspective, technique, and much more. All I needed was a sandwich, some wine, and music…and a rainy day when my daughter’s soccer game was cancelled. As with all of us, my life experiences have influenced how I see the world: what is interesting, shape and form, motion, context, color and so on. My experiences find their way into my art. I can be contacted via my website: jimcarrollart.com. I hope you enjoy my work.
