My Art works have a lot to do with transformation. The Robot series was inspired by the people I see everyday in my life, family, friends or just people walking around. I see a face, an emotion or expression and I try to wrap the soul of that feeling onto an otherwise emotional less entity like a robot.
This was one of the first in the 2012 series and has hung at a variety of events and shows around DC. His smile wraps alter way around his head. My kids love this one so at shows I intentionally over price him.... But it's time to let someone else enjoy this robot's smile for a while.
My name is Jim Faris. I am a visual and musical artist living in Washington, DC, but let's focus on the visual part here. Born in Sugartit, KY (look it up, it's real)I. have been an artist all my life. In fact I had my first show in 1986 in Cincinnati, OH where I was doing street art. Received my degree in commercial design and then went on the road with a band. Toured the country playing music. Lived in Boston for 20 years. As a graphic designer I won all the big awards (Clio, Hatch, MIMC) and had a nice career. Then my wife saw some of my old work and started kicking my ass to paint. She was right ,as always. So, I picked up the brush again in 2012 and started having fun. I have bin in a few group shows, Art-o-matic and such. These days, I do portraits with a twist to accentuate their emotional expression.
