Ready to Hang
The surfer expression, Know Fear, could be a motto for deer, too.
Surfers use it to remind themselves not to take unnecessary chances, but to acknowledge fear and be alert for danger.
I learned a lot from my surfer buddies when living on Maui.
Never did get proficient on a board, but hanging with surfers was memorable.
When I lived in Texas, deer were fair game for hunters during the season--i always hoped the deer would stay alert, not go to deer feeders, and sniff out those hunters a mile away.
I grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a lot of freedom and outdoors to run around in. All my grandparents were immigrants so I grew up with an outsider's eyes. I'm interested in making art about life, not so much art about art. Moved to Austin for my BFA at UT -- so much talent there, colleagues pushing their media techniques and working out new processes to capture the best image. A really good environment for Artists but still developing as a place for collectors. Then we had a chance to move to northern Arizona in 2016, and here we are! Can't wait to see how this vast landscape influences Alo images.
