In my Studio an idea will pop up, then I figure out the perfect process and media --oil paint, printmaking, drawing, or collage.
When I think about possible images, it's in terms of mini-narratives.
There is usually a story or an idea that can be shared, and then it's all about choices: which colors? how big? what media?
Inspirations are everywhere, my own life and the larger World.
One of my major Artist heroes is Francisco Clemente, along with Andy Warhol and Fritz Scholder. Can you see any of these influences in my work?
I grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a lot of freedom and outdoors to run around in. All my grandparents were immigrants so I grew up with an outsider's eyes. I'm interested in making art about life, not so much art about art. Moved to Austin for my BFA at UT -- so much talent there, colleagues pushing their media techniques and working out new processes to capture the best image. A really good environment for Artists but still developing as a place for collectors. Then we had a chance to move to northern Arizona in 2016, and here we are! Can't wait to see how this vast landscape influences Alo images.
