An Andrew Wyeth inspired piece. I love color in the shadows. What is white? I also have an adoration for the abandoned. This is an abandoned barn owned by the county. Moss climbs up the wall on the north side of this cement barn. My eyes play tricks on me in the winter light, and I respond to those colors I see.
Light, color and a love of the beauty in nature are the driving forces behind my work. I begin a piece of art by splashing the surface with a mixture of turpentine and color. Then I find my way around the surface with a brush quickly making marks defining space, looking for pure color first and then blocking in shapes. I am interested in brushwork, creating illusion and how we perceive color. When painting from life I experience the joy of being present. I choose to work in oil because of the luscious, qualities of this medium. For the larger paintings in the studio I layer colors and medium to create luminous qualities while working from information gathered in smaller studies.
