Ready to Hang
Cape Cod. Chatham sunset at a golden marsh. Colors in the backlit trees in simplified shadow shapes. Atmosphere with scumbled colors. This painting is from my Monet phase. I started this piece outside, then finished it in the studio.
This piece is was painted on a prepared panel, it has a slot in the back that slides easily onto a nail, so it could be hung without a frame.
Light, color and a love of the beauty in nature are the driving forces behind my work. I begin a piece of art by splashing the surface with a mixture of turpentine and color. Then I find my way around the surface with a brush quickly making marks defining space, looking for pure color first and then blocking in shapes. I am interested in brushwork, creating illusion and how we perceive color. When painting from life I experience the joy of being present. I choose to work in oil because of the luscious, qualities of this medium.
