The ponies are such a beautiful part of the marshy landscape of the mid-coastal outer banks. The pinto ponies are my favorites, I think because of the striking markings. I particularly love the shadow color on the pony in this painting. I spend a week in Assateague National Park with my family every late August and take as much time to paint there as they will let me.

This painting is shipped with a wood stained panel floater frame.

Light, color and a love of the beauty in nature are the driving forces behind my work. I begin a piece of art by splashing the surface with a mixture of turpentine and color. Then I find my way around the surface with a brush quickly making marks defining space, looking for pure color first and then blocking in shapes. I am interested in brushwork, creating illusion and how we perceive color. When painting from life I experience the joy of being present. I choose to work in oil because of the luscious, qualities of this medium.
