This painting is an absolute mess and impossible to stop looking at.

Jessica Helen Weinberg is a New York based contemporary artist. She received her bachelor’s degree from the Museum School of Fine Arts, Boston in 2012, focusing as an interdisciplinary student of art theory. Her practice is in direct succession to abstract expressionism, where she believes that paint, as a medium, is concept enough to deliberately break through the confines of representational painting. Her work echoes artists such as Diebenkorn, De Kooning, Pollock and Kline in that basic ideals such as, tone, texture and movement, join together to form a contained, “non-image” of pure abstraction. Sections of color push and pull on one another within a square canvas, a formatting decision to pay homage to Mark Rothko’s rectangular paintings, where he mastered and strengthened his work through repetition and well measured composition. Jessica has been working in close collaboration with esteemed, NYC based interior designer Marc Houston of Marc Houston Lifestyle & Interiors, producing large-scale custom paintings for private clients and annually exhibiting in Houston’s, Design on a Dime room vignette; a multi-million dollar, Housing Works event that provides homes and funds for New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS. Inserting herself as a abstract expressionist is not only out of appreciation for past innovations, it is also to act as a doorstopper in the widening world of digital art, where instant gratification reigns king. She states, “ My paintings take their time being paintings. They don’t scroll, load or text. If I had to explain it as a digital metaphor, I would want it to be as enigmatic as white noise is to an old TV.” To visit her website please see the link below:
