Acrylic and watercolor on canvas. This is a whimsical painting of a bull elephant exploring the savannah alone. I was inspired to do this piece after seeing the photo I used for reference. Elephants are known to stay with their families in a tight-knit community. However, the males leave after about 12 years to find their own mate. This piece represents the importance of independence and self-reliance. We all must be courageous and confident enough to be alone sometimes in order to find ourselves.
Jessica Kuntz is a Des Moines-based emerging artist. With no formal education in fine art, she has mastered techniques by watching other artists, working with mentors, and developing artistry through practice, self-discipline, & dedication to her passion. Over the past decade, Jessica has explored several different mediums such as charcoal, pastels, colored pencil, photography, & acrylic paints, but has discovered that oil paints are her preferred medium to work with. Her love for travel, animals, arresting portraits & influential people are often the biggest inspirations for her art, though she also enjoys taking on commissions & working with clients to create something completely unique and personal to them. In the most recent several months, Jessica has placed attention on developing her skills in watercolors, a medium she had not utilized in the past. She is enjoying this new challenge and is looking forward to growth in this method of painting.
