My paintings explore the narrative of the landscape from an aerial perspective. The visual elements of a traditional landscape and an abstract composition come together in a unique way when viewed from the perpendicular viewpoint. I create a geometric design through an analysis of a satellite photo reference. The reference for this painting was the Circus Circus Casino here in Las Vegas. The circular awnings and buildings contrast against the angular streets and sidewalks. These paintings are built by applying many layers of transparent acrylic with colors based on elements from the reference.

Jason Bowden was raised in Arkansas and enjoyed the time he spent with the artists in his family. This influenced his decision to pursue a career in fine arts. His drafting classes in middle school introduced him to the bird’s eye view of the blueprint. In high school he focused these interests into his first abstract paintings. Jason began taking art classes at the University of Arkansas, earning his Associate Degree in Art in 1997. That summer he moved to the Bay Area to attend the San Francisco Art Institute where his work became tightly focused on color field abstraction. Working in the SFAI Digital Media Lab influenced his decision to incorporate technology into his painting process. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and drawing in 1999, spending the next decade exhibiting work. In 2013 he returned to his education, attending the Academy of Art University, and earning his Master of Fine Arts in painting and drawing. Jason lives and exhibits work in Las Vegas, Nevada.
