The reason I chose the title for this piece is because the bee, a symbol of prosperity and diligence, is navigating its way toward a bright new place that is exposed through the crackling surface.

I created this piece as a visual reminder that no matter where you happen to be in life, you can always work toward higher goals and aspirations. Determination and hard work, like what a bee is known for, can take you wherever you want to go.

I painted this piece with the intention of creating a bold focal point, the bright honeycomb and detailed bee, to contrast with the textured, softer background. Layers of paint and paste were applied with brushes, rags, and palette knives, to gradually achieve the nuances and color and texture.

Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Jamie Lynn continues to live and work in the area. She earned her B.A. in Fine Arts and Education from Meredith College, and later completed her graduate studies at East Carolina University earning her M.A.Ed in Art Education. She has taught art for 15-years and currently teaches high school in Wake Forest, NC. Her work evolves with time, however there are certain constants: color, organic forms and unity always dominate in her work. She prefers acrylic paint due to the versatile nature of the media and the ability to accomplish a range of effects with different techniques. She enjoys traveling and draws a lot of inspiration from places she visits and artists she encounters. When she's not painting or teaching, she is spending time with her husband and one-year old son.
