As a second artistic response to recent challenges, I created this piece titled "New Beginning II." This mixed media piece represents a personal journey of creating something positive as a result of adversity. Although we cannot always control what happens to us as human beings, we can control how we react. This work is a reminder that no matter what you may go through, there is always light along the horizon beyond your present situation...a new beginning! I used a palette of rich browns, blues and reds to contrast the soft yellows for fierce visual impact.

Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Jamie Lynn continues to live and work in the area. She earned her B.A. in Fine Arts and Education from Meredith College, and later completed her graduate studies at East Carolina University earning her M.A.Ed in Art Education. She has taught art for 15-years and currently teaches high school in Wake Forest, NC. Her work evolves with time, however there are certain constants: color, organic forms and unity always dominate in her work. She prefers acrylic paint due to the versatile nature of the media and the ability to accomplish a range of effects with different techniques. She enjoys traveling and draws a lot of inspiration from places she visits and artists she encounters. When she's not painting or teaching, she is spending time with her husband and one-year old son.
