The reason I chose the title for this piece is because it is done in colors that don't typically arrive in nature as a sunflower. It seems to have a "little sass" and is doing something a little against the norm.
I created this piece in 2014 in the time before my oldest son, who was 4 1/2 years old at the time, was about to have open-heart surgery. He came through like a champ and has been going strong ever since.
My inspiration in creating this piece was the love that I have for sunflowers, but I wanted to do a piece that was atypical. It really gave creative freedom in color mixing and exaggeration. I really enjoyed creating this painting.
Jaime is a full-time, professional artist who lives in Nebraska--between two large cities-- on an acreage with her husband, two young boys, and their fish, QuinnAgain. She studied fine art and design, and earned a bachelor of science degree in Design and a minor in Business. Jaime is very inspired by sunflowers and flowers in general. She specializes in slightly abstract sunflowers. Frequently, her work is created by a combination of on site visualizations, sometimes it is from a photo she has taken in her travels around the United States, and most often, it is straight from her memories and imagination. Her studio is in the daylight basement of her family's home, where she can gaze out at the natural grasses and various flowers on their acreage.
