Good Old Nights is a plein air oil painting from 2007. It was a late summer day north of Goldsboro, NC in a field near the abandoned home. Tobacco was being harvested nearby and we were at the edge of a corn field.
I usually romanticize places like this, wondering about the people who built it and lived there. I wonder who was born there? Was it a happy home or full of trouble? My title assumes some evenings were good in that good old summertime. After a busy hard day, life on the shady porches of this big old home would have been great and probably enjoyed by the whole clan. Maybe there was music, too. It's fun to think about. I turned the daytime scene into an evening nocturne, which is one of my tricks.
So this was painted and then put away, but now available as an 11 by 14 matted piece (image is 5 by 8.5), and ready for a standard 11 by 14 frame and glass. Perhaps it will transport you to special days and places gone by, when things were never easy but maybe a lot simpler, and a time when people were very connected to the earth and sky, unlike fancy 21st century folk.
The painting is signed with my red JHA monogram (John Henry Anglin) and accompanied by a hand written, signed letter from me.
My name is Jack Anglin (JackAnglin.com) and I have painted almost all my life, making thousands of paintings and portraits. I am now painting full time in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, as well as traveling and following several visual interests. My artwork is eclectic and I am very capable working in great detail or also with expressive, colorful, deft brush strokes. I enjoy plein air work and studio painting and occasionally work entirely from memory. Subject matter that attracts me ranges from floral pieces to landscapes, marine subjects to religious and spiritual imagery, as well as figurative images and, of course, portraiture. My work is found in galleries but I'll be selling more online and connecting with a larger audience here and on my websites. Thank you for taking an interest in me and my work. It is a great honor to have my paintings bought and hanging in your home --it is the greatest compliment one can give an artist! I hope you will follow me and keep an eye on what I am up to in the art world.
