The title of this piece was a natural choice as the work feels like a rainy day over a landscape or seascape. I was inspired to create the piece after experiencing my first Texas thunderstorm. It reminded me a lot of storms back in South Africa and I wanted to capture that feeling on canvas. Initially the drips were accidental but I loved how they enhanced the feeling of a rainy day - almost as if you were looking at the rain through a window pane. So, I decided to add a few extra. I also love that the view could be a storm over any landscape - is it the ocean? Mountains? Pasture? It simultaneously evokes a feeling of peace and curiosity. Where does the sky end and the land begin?
“In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different". - Coco Chanel I strive for originality in all of my art, be it painting or printmaking. Originally from South Africa, I find the culture still heavily influences my artistic decisions. The vibrant hues of a Kalahari sunset, the clear azure tint of a bushveld sky or the eclectic mix of materials, just as unique as the people who dwell there. I then lived in New York for ten years before finding myself settling in Austin, Texas. Surrounded by such vibrant and creative communities it's no surprise then that my work is constantly shifting and evolving. I've been really inspired by working in mixed media and enjoy the process of seeing my idea come to life. I hope you find your irreplaceable piece! Thank you for viewing my portfolio.
