This painting measures 9x12, but will come in a white 16x20 mat. A good friend of mine recently traveled to Thailand, to my extreme jealousy. I was looking up photos of the region where she'd be traveling, and came across a striking image of a woman wading in the middle of a lily pond, wearing a red dress. Days after the image had faded from my memory, the colors stuck with me—the flare of red among all that green, reflected in the murky blues and browns of the water. I decided if I couldn't go to Thailand, I'd bring Thailand to me. For now, at least.
Born and raised in St. Louis, Kate Moore now finds herself based in lovely Des Moines, Iowa. After receiving two BFAs from Truman State University, where she studied graphic design and studio art, she made her way north through a series of diverse jobs: illustrator for a T-shirt shop, full-time stationery and print artist, designer for an award-winning trio of city magazines, puppy wrangler (OK, that one was unpaid, but definitely worthwhile). Kate's passions in life are art, '90s pop culture, animals, and food, in no particular order. When not working at her full-time job (where she designs layouts around food), she's usually found scribbling, painting, or digging in the backyard with her rescue dog. Her paintings are inspired by things she comes across in her daily travels, from the everyday to the extraordinary and everything in between. Every piece represents a moment in the day with no demands, no stress, just a paintbrush and a blissfully empty page.
