This piece is a charcoal and conte crayon drawing of an aging athlete preparing a batting pose for a figure study. His poses ranged from track and field to team sports, but I chose to develop this study for it's nostalgia, highlighting his still-sculptured back and recalling his active youth.
Originally from NJ, having lived in both Philadelphia and then NYC, I've been lucky to live with constant stimulants and a changing landscape that always leaves room for new perspective and inspiration. I studied fashion, fine art and art history, so I'm partial to exploring form- the figure, portraits, nudes, etc. I like to experiment. My creative time is split between designing bespoke apparel (heatherroyal.com) and fine art- usually studies or personal exploratory pieces. After several commissions and an expanding portfolio I hope to share and find new homes for my work. While I love developing more traditional pieces, I've warmed to creating other expressive, abstract and multimedia work, letting the designer part of my brain take the reigns.
