I collect materials for my art from my own studio. Paper fragments, paint splatters, old drawings, and studio trash work their way into each painting or drawing. Then I add my own gesture with charcoal and paint. Some parts get erased, while other elements stay. I continue the process until I am satisfied: the art tells a story with a compelling mixture of form, color, and texture.
I was born in the small town of Brenham, Texas. I drew animals, both real (my menagerie of pets), and fantastic (dragons and such). With this obsession with drawing nature, I studied drawing, painting, printmaking, and art history at Baylor University. I lived for five months in Florence, Italy. There I took classes in cooking, Italian, and Renaissance art. Upon my return the States, I attended an intensive drawing “marathon” at the New York Studio School. I then moved to Baltimore (I was a Texas girl eager to see the East Coast) attended MICA as a Post-Baccalaureate student. After that, I moved to Houston, TX, to earn my Master of Fine Arts from the University of Houston. I worked in DYI art spaces, such as The Skydive, and helped organize community shows. I currently work, teach, and make art in Denver.
