This painting was begun from life then finished in the studio. The subject was painted in natural lighting indoors. The model chose his own attire, and decided to hold an orange. The choice to include the fruit, the "torn at" clothing, along with his cool self confidence, led to the decision for the title of this piece. BROMIUS is the affectionate name used by the devotees of Dionysus, god of sensuality, wine and music, and the youngest of the Olympian Gods.
