this piece came from the heart. I started applying colors and pigments to the canvass and let my emotions guide me thru an uncharted voyage. I played with textures, tones and lines, following my instinct towards the final result, where a possible religious upside down cross signals the end of an quest.

My name is Gene Diaz-Cano. The creative process starts hours before I get to my studio. A concept is born in my mind, and my imagination will make it grow and twist and refine until I am ready to make it a material reality. Still at that moment It involves decisions of color and motion combined with the emotional responses to musical selections in my studio. It is a dance of form and color and things continue to evolve while I create new concepts and ideas to enrich even further the original conception. Auto didactic grandson of a famous Spanish painter, sculptor and architect Eugenio Cano Pelli, whom I never had the opportunity to know because he died before I was born. I felt the artistic vein palpitating in me since a very early age, and indulged on exploration of many routes and possibilities all thru my life. My art is sometimes realistic figurative work, sometimes dreamy surrealistic, sometimes chaotic, but always a reflection of my emotions at the moment of creation. It allows me to navigate through a state of being that had always felt overwhelming but I have fought thru my entire life, allowing me to achieve a deep profound sense of inner peace.
