This painting came off of a particular period recently within the last few months in which I identified with the red color family. The emphasis here is not intended to be the color red in and of itself but rather the observation that red was my power color was pointed out to me by multiple people in my life and that I embody many characteristics associated with that specific color family. When I began this painting I gravitated to the color red first as an automatic response to the colors on my palette and only about halfway through did I realize how this particular color agrees with me and continued to use that as a base for the abstract figures. The figures and the shapes themselves came to me having studied primitive art and the odd and interesting abstract symbols that often meander their ways onto cave walls. The crescent and sphere embody the moon and planetary occupation in conjunction with the course of life represented by the arrows of varying direction in both the centraland vertical figures. The central spokes are all branched interconnectedly representing destiny. Below the central construct inhabits a symbolized plane of horizon representing terrestrial, celestial and spiritual dimensions. Overall this was for me a very spiritual piece and it brings me a bit of serenity.
My name is Evan Michaels Estrada and I am a San Antonio based artist and musician whose primary genres of painting are in the vein of abstract and expressionism. Through these genres I have come to define my personal art as being the mode of communication between myself, others and the nature of reality as told through the vocabulary of color, shape, and form as opposed to drawing strictly from topical stimuli and more so exploring the reactionary emotional element of the medium. I was originally raised in Anchorage, AK before returning to Texas. In 2009 I began to study art and music at Northwest Vista College where I was first exposed to the artworks of Max Ernst, Jean Michele Basquiat and Jackson Pollack from whom inspired me to start painting. Currently I am a Picture Framer at Kurt Youngbloods Framing and Art.
