I like to make art, for the sake of making art. It is simply something that I need to do, natural as breathing or drinking water. I find meaning in the things I see, hear, and feel in everyday life- (color, emotion, composition, light, sound)- and re-arrange them in ways that have value to me. Painting and drawing are the conduits in which I enjoy exploring and combining these elements. They allow me to further examine who I am, materializing that which is intangible. Each and every piece I create is about the moment, and being fully engaged with myself and my materials is extremely important. In the moments of creation a dialogue is often born in my head, and some of these fragments emerge in my work. Accurately articulating what I'm feeling or trying to say has always been a difficult thing for me, however art and music hold a universal language in which I am able to fully express myself.

In particular, I find nostalgia, daydreams, and dreams to be incredibly powerful. They have the ability to evoke such strong feelings and emotions. Through them you can fall in love, feel happy, sad, angry, or find utterly profound beauty. Dream logic also, is something that has always lured me. I live in my head a lot of the time, letting my thoughts go where they need to. When I don't have anything going on, I like to sit alone and think. In a matter of seconds I can fabricate an elaborate storyline where lifetimes are lived out. Through these fictitious narratives, I catch a spit-second glimpse into something. Images flash before my mind's eye, leaving an impression that stains me, accompanied by a mood and a feeling that pour into my psyche. I am intensely interested in these glimpses and the feelings surrounding them, and I believe that is what I'm really after in my picture-making. The magic truly takes place when we exit our comfort zones. I am especially interested in my process and seeing what can happen. There are moments in painting, (or any creative medium really) that I find profoundly beautiful, such as watching the unexpected materialize. In those moments I fall in love, and remember why I'm doing what I'm doing.
