The first portrait I ever painted was of my grandfather after his death about 3 years ago, and since that time my favorite surface to paint on has been wood paneling. It provides an amazingly smooth and clean surface to paint on. I believe the grain that shows through whatever scene or person that is depicted, gives the painting an element of interest or life that I couldn't achieve any other way. I also love painting people, especially people I know. Capturing someone's personality in the representation of their face is one of the most interesting and entertaining problems to try and tackle. Even if one doesn't know the person depicted, someone's face can tell a story in just the way they look. I believe it is my duty to tell those stories.
My name is erin bower and I am a self taught painter and muralist located in Austin Tx. I graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Graphic design about a year ago. But since graduating I have focused on bettering my painting skills and decided to follow my passions in fine art. Because I am self taught, many of my paintings are literally studies in how to paint. Different skin tones, lighting and scenery all look different, so trying to understand these subtleties takes practice. I love the fact that I am constantly growing and changing as an artist and I believe that can be seen through the progression of my work. I hope those who look at my work can see this and appreciate that time and love that has gone into it.
