Ready to Hang
The origins of my tulle layering. I am currently working with layering tulle instead of just using canvas for my glitch paintings. Each layer added creates a more intense moire pattern, and allows me to further distort the painted image.
My work could mean a lot of things. It doesn't have to mean anything, because it’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.
Painting has the ability to slow time. Every day I take in more but remember less. What did I do last Wednesday night? The week before that? April 2nd, three years ago? So, while trying to make conscious decisions about how to think and what to pay attention to, I paint. I paint pictures of photos my parents took when I was a kid and portraits of who I may be today. (I’m still unsure.) I paint past art that I made but no longer have. I paint because my paintings can never be perfect. I paint to hold on just a little bit longer. Images give me more than words. I break, bend, distort, and rebuild images. I have an idea of my loved ones in my head, but I can never truly know them. For me, a glitch represents the ways we misunderstand each other and the world. We want to understand each other, as people, but we are standing in misunderstanding.
