Curator's Note: The layered swirls and varying sizes give the effect of movement from a central point, to running off the canvas.
This painting is a bit of a battle between warm and cold-colored organic circles competing for space and attention. In the background there is a layer of yellow with a layer of midnight blue on top of that but roughly scratched off to give some texture. Then come the many layers of circular shapes sometimes thin or rough layers and other times thicker, smoother, larger or looser layers. I am often drawn to paint organic shapes and these combinations of colors. I think it is a subconscious urge.
I like to paint animals, landscapes or abstract paintings with bold colors in different styles. I become fixated on certain themes for periods of time - cats, frogs, abstract circles, before switching over to something else for awhile, kachina figures maybe, but I like to revisit themes, each time it is different. I have some Native American blood and am mostly influenced by native art of the US and outside.
