The base of this is graphite, but for the colors I decided to play around with soft pastels, a medium I haven't used in awhile. I like their ability to either blend seamlessly or have sharp definition. I used a picture for reference, but made him my own, and I had fun adding a touch of color to this horse's coat and placing a colorful background around him.

I was born in the mountains, but my heart is here on the prairies of North Dakota. I grew up around horses, and they are one of my greatest passions, as well as one of my greatest influences in my art. Besides horses and art, I love good movies, good books, and writing. I also drink a ridiculous amount of honey-sweetened tea, and sometimes I forget to eat. I've been drawing and otherwise creating art for as long as I can remember. My favorite mediums are graphite pencil, oil paints, soft pastel, clay, acrylic paint, colored pencils, and recently watercolor. I usually strive for realism, but lately I have been dabbling in art that is a little more abstract. The art I create may be inspired by horses, something I notice in the world around me, or a thought generated by the wild wanderings of my imagination.
