This original painting was painted from life, which means, from direct observation rather than photographs for reference. In this manner, I am able to capture the essence of colors and reflections in their natural light. When I first received the plant, it bloomed an unnatural color due to the dyes the grower had steeped the plant. Now having rebloomed, it's beautiful magenta fuchsia colors shine through.
Since I was a child old enough to wield a writing instrument, I loved drawing and applying color. I did not have formal instruction except drawing and introduction to painting in college but pursued medicine as a career. Over the years, creating for my children and their school projects, family and friends were my only creative outlets. I have taught myself a myriad of art media, craft and digital media skills which continued to develop my sense of design, color and craftsmanship. In 2015 I began committing to keeping a sketch diary, recording visual snapshots of my daily life in ink and watercolor wash. Simultaneously, I painted a 12 x 9 foot grand palace staircase for the school play, which led to a commissioned piece. The overwhelmingly encouraging responses from these two works gave me prompted to dive into to painting seriously. A little after that year, I was painting nearly every day and emboldened to claim the title, artist.
