This is a painting of my beloved Shepherd/Collie mix, Harley. He was a rescue dog, and was the perfect family dog - gentle yet protective, smart, and sweet. I chose to paint from a photograph of him for an exercise in glazing. The dark areas of the painting have many, many layers of paint, which give them a deep, reflective quality. The goal was to get really deep, black blacks and super white whites. In this particular photo, Harley had been playing in the snow, and has a bit on his nose and muzzle. My family doesn't want me to sell this painting! But we have the photograph for our memory.
My name is Liz and I am a mother of five and a children's photographer. I've always loved painting and graphic design, and have studied both over the years in between having children, along with drawing. Oil painting is my preferred method and while abstract pieces come more easily I enjoy a variety of subjects, including life drawing which I also studied along the way. I love nature, beautiful, shiny things, bold color and light. My other hobbies include swimming, biking and running, and I am an Ironman finisher. In addition to my 5 children, I have two Chorkies named Sabie and Pepper. I live in Central Illinois but plan to head for a warmer climate near the ocean once the kids are grown.
