This is my take for a Star Trek inspired group art show, I didn't get to show this one because I could only show 2 pieces and this one stayed behind.
I wanted to portray a more playful Spock wearing the Mickey ears but still keep his serious face.
The painting is made with oils on a 8"x10" stretched canvas, but it has been framed on a gunmetal color frame, making it 12"x14" inches big.
Karlo Henry Velazquez, born in Barcelona Spain and grew up in different cities all over Mexico, currently lives in Redding California USA. He is an electronic engineer by profession, but discovered his passion for painting at age 17 after taking an art history class at the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey. Since then, he has taken art classes and workshops at the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey, Instituto de Bellas Artes de Queretaro and the University of Texas in Arlington. His style began as collages and snapshots of ideas and evolved into more surreal portraits of hearts as seen in the series "CorazonEs:" ("HeartIs:"). He has created a diverse range of paintings that demonstrated influences from popular Mexican folklore and painters like Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and other Mexican painters With his latest works, he has moved into an experimental phase with his series "Viva el Pop!" where he pays tribute to the 80's and the Pop movement of American culture.
