The title "Dynamic Seas" of this impressionist painting, helps focus on the surface of the ever changing ocean. The love of sailing offshore inspires me to capture the dynamic movements of the ocean. Similar to staring at a camp fire, the rise, fall, crests and troughs of the ocean mesmerize me. The constant changing sea captures and holds my attention. For me, the best way to visually pass this concept to the viewer is with sharp color against color strokes. This technique gives the painting the energetic movement that compels the eye to dance across the painting as it would while gazing across the swells and chop of an unsettled sea.
The edges are painted and may be hung unframed or framed.
Art and creativity has always been part of who I am, but I only really started to focus on painting full time at the age of 50, following a long and successful career in advertising. As an artist, I love working in many different styles and exploring a wide range of subject matters. The beauty of online galleries lies in their eclectic art collections, and without the pressure of brick and mortar galleries dictating what I paint, I am free to paint whatever inspires me. Painting for me is an experience of falling headlong into inspiration. An image I come across will stick in my head and refuse to leave until it finds its way onto the canvas. My work is visually diverse, and there are very few painting styles that don’t inspire me in someway or another. My paintings range from abstract and cubist, to impressionistic and realistic. Most recently, I’ve been inspired by quirky and retro TV shows to tell a story through my paintings. The lighting and cinematography of these shows inspire me to paint dramatic moments in time, and I create unique, intriguing characters that are open to interpretation.
