Ready to Hang
I heard my wife talking about buying oranges and not being able to find them. She relaxed after I explained the oranges were important, high paid, fashion models. :)
"3 Oranges.1" is 1 of 3 paintings of the same subject. In the work ".1", the overall painting is handle roughly. Choppy strokes of color on color move over the entire canvas unifying subjects and background. As I apply strokes of color, the forms merge with each other and the surrounding colors. This is a greatly rewarding style for me to paint in. The finished work looks very quick to paint when the actual strokes are very thought out.
Art and creativity has always been part of who I am, but I only really started to focus on painting full time at the age of 50, following a long and successful career in advertising. As an artist, I love working in many different styles and exploring a wide range of subject matters. The beauty of online galleries lies in their eclectic art collections, and without the pressure of brick and mortar galleries dictating what I paint, I am free to paint whatever inspires me. Painting for me is an experience of falling headlong into inspiration. An image I come across will stick in my head and refuse to leave until it finds its way onto the canvas. My work is visually diverse, and there are very few painting styles that don’t inspire me in someway or another. My paintings range from abstract and cubist, to impressionistic and realistic. Most recently, I’ve been inspired by quirky and retro TV shows to tell a story through my paintings. The lighting and cinematography of these shows inspire me to paint dramatic moments in time, and I create unique, intriguing characters that are open to interpretation.
