The process for creating my paintings is similar to writing a haiku. It balances. If I can achieve balance and maintain consistency, the painting succeeds. Here the paddle boarder sits on the right, the moon and the darker night sky sit on the left. The eye goes to the girl, the girl is looking at the moon, the moon reflects on the water, only after you've taken in everything else do you notice the myriad stars.
Dustin Porta is an artist and writer from rural Pennsylvania who moved to the Gulf Coast to live and work on the ocean. Studying art from an early age, he practiced drawing, printmaking, and digital art in high school and college. His unique methods were collected and refined over time from many different teachers in many places, from the graffiti artist’s workshop in the loft of an old barn, to a schooner at sea, to a cramped attic in wintertime, to a surrealistic print shop on the Gulf Coast. This rigorous self-education makes for a style that is both irreverent and refined, unique but familiar, and often focused on the sea. dustinporta.com
