This painting is from my Still Life Jazz series. It continues the theme of invention based on the concept of a floral still life. It is intended to project energy, fun and a contemporary feel. I would frame it a simple modern 8x10 black frame. While it is great on its own, I would recommend that you consider buying several others of the same size in this series and create a cluster of 3-5. They reinforce each other and make a strong statement. Look for other 8x10 pieces in this series on Vango. I'll be posting many more.
The title of the piece came to me after I finished the work. The flower-like objects reminded me of those magnificent mysterious head sculptures.
I'm Donald Bruce Wright, a fine artist based in the Santa Cruz Mountains of Northern California. You'll see works here from me created in several media, including oil on canvas as well as smaller pieces made with water-based paints on watercolor paper. The paintings displayed on Vango are from my "Still Life Jazz" series. Like a jazz player who takes a musical standard and then interprets it in new ways, I create paintings that are based on an art world standard: the still life. Real life and its structure serve as a point of departure while remaining loosely recognizable in the final work. Creating these bold energetic floral inventions within the traditional conceptual format of a still life allows the work to project the contradictory sense of being somehow familiar yet fresh. Although my painting style is self-taught, I received formal grounding in art by earning a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2007.
