This painting is from a series of paintings that I made where the circle is imprinted somehow in the picture. The circular form is very intriguing to me. It reminds me of bubbles, the earth, the feminine shape, desire, and calm. So many ideas in the way we think and process are circular and not linear. The figure in these paintings are more abstract and vague intentionally. I want the viewer to relate to the human figure not to any specific person. The qualities of paint can relay so much emotion. Whether it is a thin wispy wash or a thick and sensuous pass with the palette knife, watching paint move across a surface is just the perfect language to express my non linear thinking!

There were few possibilities that life would lead me to, but for a career in the arts. My first love was in dance which I studied intensely. Through college I studied ballet, design, drawing and painting, but I also learned the art of stained glass. After graduation I lived in Seattle and worked for an architectural glass studio working with large fused glass installation pieces. I also worked for seven years in costuming for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and learned a lot about the body. Through all of this I have continued to develop my painting and drawing skills. For the last ten years or more I have focused solely on a painting and drawing career and in developing work that captures my thinking.
