Ready to Hang

One of my favorite ways to unwind is to set on my porch swing and watch the birds in my backyard. This piece was painted on a warm summer day after having coffee sitting on my swing and watching the birds fly back and forth to the feeder. I wanted it to capture the free spirit of a bird in flight. This is one of my personal favortites. It takes me back to summer days on my porch.

Acrylic Abstract on 30" x 30" X 1.5" canvas. The sides are painted black, it has three coats of varnish for protection and it is wired and ready for hanging.

Creating has always been a motivating force in my life from childhood. My art form has changed over the years, it wasn't until late into adulthood, I settled in on painting and made it my exclusive focus. My painting style is intuitive. I start with a a basic concept, color palette, general composition idea, but as the painting evolves, I am constantly evaluating the painting, letting it speak to me. I then make adjustments in for composition, movement, light and value. I think the hardest part of painting for me is that sometimes I know I must cover a part of the painting that I have fallen in love with to benefit the overall composition of the painting. Some paintings just "fall into place" and others I may struggle with for weeks or months, or sometimes I have to put them aside and come back to them at a later date with fresh eyes. But that's one of the things I love about painting, problem solving. Because when you figure out the solution and make it work, it makes your soul sing. I just love it. My other great passions in life are my husband, son and two cats. My son, who is now 21 and has special needs, is my. greatest pride and joy. He makes me a better person. I was unable to spend time creating for many years due the high demand of caring for him those early years. Those years were difficult, demanding and exhausting, sometimes it still is; but he has taught me valuable life lessons that I otherwise would never have learned. Just a few of those are to not take ANYTHING for granted, appreciate the little things, and to slow down and live in the moment. I think, no I know, that has helped me develop as an artist as well, so for that I am grateful. My moments of bliss are when I'm painting in my studio with him laughing with joy as he is petting our cats. My little heaven. Oh, and coffeee, yes, I'm drinking a cup of coffee!!! :) Thank you for taking the time to view my art.
