Parents of children with autism are often referred to as "Warrior Moms/Dads" for the fierceness, loyalty and dedication in which we protect and fight for our children. Autism is a "spectrum disorder", meaning that it covers a range of symptoms and traits thought to be caused by the same underlying mechanism that can affect individuals at varying levels on severity. I wanted to make a painting to represent what it feels like to be the parent of these amazing children, so this was the result. My son with autism has made me a better, stronger person and for that I am grateful.

I hope this painting touches you on some level too, autism or not. I love using lots of unconventional colors in my representational paintings. It's just the way I see things.

Thank you for viewing my artwork.

Creating has always been a motivating force in my life from childhood. My art form has changed over the years, it wasn't until late into adulthood, I settled in on painting and made it my exclusive focus. One of hardest part of painting for me is that sometimes I know I must cover a part of the painting that I have fallen in love with to benefit the overall composition of the painting. Some paintings just "fall into place" and others I may struggle with for weeks or months, or sometimes I have to put them aside and come back to them at a later date with fresh eyes. But that's one of the things I love about painting, problem solving, because when you figure out the solution and make it work, it makes your soul sing. I just love it. My other great passions in life are my husband, son and two cats. My son, who is now 21 and has special needs, is my greatest pride and joy. He makes me a better person. I was unable to spend time creating for many years due the high demand of caring for him those early years. Those years were difficult, demanding and exhausting, sometimes it still is; but he has taught me valuable life lessons that I otherwise would never have learned. Just a few of those are to not take ANYTHING for granted, appreciate the little things, and to slow down and live in the moment. I think, no, I know, that has helped me develop as an artist as well, so for that I am grateful. My moments of bliss are when I'm painting in my studio with him laughing with joy as he is petting our cats. My little heaven. Oh, and coffeee, yes, I'm drinking a cup of coffee!!! :) Thank you for taking the time to view my art.
