I am a watercolor artists that paints primarily landscapes. In
Michigan there is no lack of subject matter. It has shore line, sand dunes, deep forest,
farmland, streams, rivers and lakes. It is an exciting place to live with endless
possibilities. Seasons change and so does the landscapes. What once was green turns bright reds and oranges. Since I was a child I painted with watercolors and not always
on paper like I was suppose to. Sometimes I painted on the sidewalk or on the porch steps which the adults were not so happy about. However when I went to college painting in watercolors wasn’t an obvious choice. In painting classes I learned how to stretch a canvas and the ins and outs of other types of paint. It was when I took a watercolor class that I became amazed at how much freer watercolors are. We painted on paper that didn’t need stretching and you didn’t have to wash up every time. There was no turning back.
God has blessed me greatly in watercolor.
My name is Dawn Hollister. I am a Vango artist. Thank you for visiting my portfolio. I am from Allegan Michigan which is not far from Lake Michigan. I have lived there all of my life and want to live no where else. I earned a BFA in watercolor form Western Michigan University in 1996. After getting a degree I got a position as a graphic designer at a large private label drug company. I am married and have two sons. I have been painting in watercolor most of my life but it has only been in the last 10 years that I gave it more attention. My art work has been displayed in a corporate setting, restaurants and hospitals. I have been Grand Rapids Michigan's ArtPrize several times, which is the largest art competition in the world.
