Ready to Hang
As an artist and fan of art, I'm moved most by shape and color. I follow the less is more approach when it comes to painting. To me the most effective way to convey an emotion or message, should be the simplest way. More often than not I find folk art applying this simple approach.
I don't know precisely where the inspiration came from when I painted this piece. So it's entirely up to the viewer to interpret it however it may speak to you.. All I can I can say is, at the time I was merely experimenting with form and color and this is what emerged..
This original was painted in acrylic on 11 X 14 cradled wood panel. Sides of panel are painted black. Two clear coats of varnish have been applied over entire surface for protection and longevity, producing a lush gloss finish. Comes with HangZ flat mount hanger (installed) on back ready to hang out the box. Hangs flush to the wall.
Thank you for viewing my art!
A native of Savannah Ga, David Ussery discovered his passion for art and drawing at an early age. While his grades floundered throughout his grade school years, the back of his test sheets were often converted into random doodles. Often the target of flying chalkboard erasers in a vain attempt by nuns to make him pay attention in class, David was far more interested in creative pursuits. David would spend the rest of his teen years producing commissioned art for local business and clients in his hometown. Although having no formal institutional training, David did receive first hand lessons from local professional artist in his hometown, and has studied extensively the concepts from artist such as Sergei Bongart. In the 90s David moved to Orlando Fl to pursue a nutty childhood dream of becoming a Disney animator. Unfortunately not long after settling in Orlando, Disney permanently closed the Florida wing of their animation studio. To pay his bills and contemplate a plan B, David then took up a job working back of the house at a local resort restaurant. Late one night as he was departing work, he saw a guy sitting in the lobby at a concession stand sketching portraits. As David stood there in his company smock smelling of lard and covered in grease, he said to himself "I can do that. I think I would rather do that." To make a short story shorter, David then got a job as a sketch artist. Over the following summer he literally drew hundreds, if not thousands of tourist from all over the world, including a few celebrities here and there. It was then during this period that David rekindled his passion for fine art and painting. Since then David has made his living as an independent artist. Through original art sells, private commissions, solo exhibitions and as an independent contractor for the Disney corporation. He draws inspiration from the masters like Van Gogh, Monet, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas, Renoir and Picasso. However most of his inspiration comes directly from his own personal life experiences and observation. Evoking emotion, while at the same time, leaving the viewer something to ponder. To him that's when art is really doing something, the mixture of emotion and mystery.
