In my visits to New Zealand, I’ve always been struck by its landscape views, which seem both familiar and alien at once. As the painting depicts, simple fields and livestock fences easily evoke the view from most highways that cross my native state, Ohio. But then Tolkienesque mountains rise up in the distance, as solemn as they are beautiful, confounding any sense of home.
I live and create in southwest Ohio, under the moniker atmosphotic. This word reflect my classical languages background: "atmo-": air” and "photic": of or relating to light. As often as I can, I paint, draw, sculpt, and design. I am intrigued by public and emplaced art (e.g., murals, graffiti, land art). My pieces reside in private and public collections across the country. Like a loving father, I am encouraging my other artwork to find new homes and move out of my basement.
