I am a conceptual painter that explores ideas in a series of paintings or sculptures or performances. My most recent series explores how information is distorted over time or through different mediums. I have been taking images from movies or television that I watch online, and when the video pauses or breaks down for no apparent reason, I capture those images and paint them. I accentuate the distortions in the image, making it appear more digitized. This process focuses on my belief that all media changes over time, even seemingly concrete mediums like film or video. Even though the images captured on film do not necessarily change over time, our perceptions of them do, and the context in which we talk about them also does.

David Brian Dobbs is a conceptual painter who has been a working artist all of his life. He received his MFA in Painting from the University of Minnesota in 2012. He has exhibited around the United States and in China.
