From David,

"This is from my series on racial violence that almost won me the Guggenheim Fellowship for this year. It is a series of unapologetic tomes on institutionalized violence that has defined America's treatment of those with darker skin.

To commemorate these awful and familiar acts, I will send them into the future to be collected by wealthy elite and given up for study to academics who will discern their messages too late. I send them into the future to give our children's children's children a hope that is as old as human struggle."

David Aaron Smith is an artist/activist who's work centers on social issues. Rather than exploit the situations he paints about, David wants to give back. For each painting sold, David will donate half of his share to a cause listed in the description of the painting. From David: "I think it's a great way to get people involved in my work, and even piquing an interest in art in general. So many times, art is bought and sold for it's aesthetic value only when the art with the greatest value is that which is used as a tool to tell the story of a culture's moment in history. My work is about OUR moment in history and how it looks from my perspective. I think it will speak to those who see the same America." Watch the documentary, "The Last Mountain," to get an idea of David's roots in activism. Along with his large body of political fine-art, David is also working on a "living sculpture" in Death Valley that you can stay at : #davidaaronsmith #villaanitadv
